It wouldn't be proper to do an August blog without giving a shout out to Nathan's new (as yet unmet) buddy Zachary Robert who was born on August 4th! Aunty Sarah and Zachary are doing well, getting to know each other and getting adjusted to a new world. We are going to meet them at the end of September and are very excited!
August was a bit of a slow month, much to Scott's chagrin and my enjoyment. Nathan had his first trip to the Bronx Zoo which he LOVED. We signed up for a family pass so we can go more often and see the different animals. The zoo is so big we only saw part of it in the 4 hours we were there. Nathan loved the monkeys, the tiger, the snakes, and the hand washing station at the petting zoo. He was absolutely exhausted after running around for four hours but all three of us had fun!
We have also been spending time at our newly discovered Hoboken Water Park which Kim and Todd introduced to us. It is a lot of fun and very safe spot for kids. Nathan, the water lover, does not particularly like the spontenaiety of the water jets and sprinklers so he runs around the periphery and spends most of his time pointing at the water. I figure if I take him enough he'll get more accustomed. Meanwhile, his friend Todd just runs into the water full force and laughs. He is such a riot.
Nathan is also enjoying his golf clubs and lacrosse sticks and Mommy and Daddy have been encouraging him to learn how to use them - I see "Daddy and Nathan" bonding days in my future - all involving some sort of sport. Nathan still loves any kind of ball in his sights (especially to eat them).
This month we also had a reunion with Magdalena, which did not go as expected. Nathan was a little hesitant to approach her, but we all had fun catching up and sharing Nathan stories and Magdalena really enjoyed seeing Nathan again. We hope to see each other a little more frequently.
This month Nathan has started to say "Bye." Though he says it with a southern accent so it comes out as ba ba. He also knows the sheep sound (Baa Baa) - noticing a trend here? Ball, Bubble, Da Da, Ma Ma, a lizard (sticking his tongue out rapidly), owl (hoo hoo)...the animal sounds are a big hit these days. He is still fiercely independent, is now a Sesame Street lover (how else can I get ready in the morning?!), and more and more like a little boy every day. This month also made headlines because we easily transitioned from a bottle to a cup for milk at night. So far we are doing well on transitions. The blankies will be another story, I know, but I have no intention of trying to wean him from those unless he is 16 and still carrying them around. That might cause a problem.
So hard to remember it all, as he is doing something new every day. The babbling is constant now and with inflection, tone, and volume as if he is really having a conversation. So I think words are next. We'll keep you in blog-land posted!
