Breastfeeding on the fly...on an island in Lake George.
Where in the world is Nathan? Smothered and smushed in the blankets and towels so as to not get a concussion from the boat ride, sunburn, cold, or bug bites....

Memorial Day Weekend

Our car for our first road trip. We packed lightly.

Scott keeps lamenting that we couldn't bring any "gear," (i.e. golf clubs, tennis rackets, hiking boots, etc.). As you can see, we definitely had "gear"...a car seat, stroller, bouncy seat, diapers, boppy, ..... Next to the photo of the car you can see how Nathan felt about his first car ride.

Our cottage at Silver Bay YMCA, where we stayed with Geri and Lee Evans.
Our friends Joel and Becca Wright, meeting Nathan for the first time.
Nathan talking with his Grandma in his UNC gear to support Auntie Becca, who heads to UNC for grad school this fall.

Well, we made it! Our first car trip as a threesome, to Lake George and back. Nathan was a gem all weekend. The fresh air seemed to agree with him. A lot of "firsts" this weekend - Nathan met his Grandpa "Pop" Lee Evans this weekend, went on his first car ride, first boat ride, first BBQ, first time out in the great outdoors, and he handled it all like a pro. All of the Evanses had a great time spending time with the Wrights, including Joel and Becca, Nancy and Forrest (Joel's parents), Walter (Joel's brother), and Dave Tyree and his girlfriend Sandra, and many other Silver Bay current and former "emps" that we met. The weather was nice for the most part, overcast the first day but then sunny and gorgeous. I was able to go for a kayak with my husband as well as play a little tennis. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend and so nice to get away from the city. All of us feel re-energized.

Happy Memorial Day

Still trying to capture a smile on camera....this is yesterday when Nathan was talking to Mommy.

Nathan on his changing table, again talking...
Proof that I was able to get Nathan to sit in the swing. A few minutes after this he started screaming.

Nathan on our picnic blanket in the park. The first one he is staring up at Mommy and the next one is Nathan with turtle neck, having "tummy time" on the picnic blanket.

Nathan's blog staff will be on hiatus for the weekend while traveling to Lake George. We will have plenty of pictures when we get back, however, so stay tuned!

Have a great weekend!

Nathan with Grandma and Grandpa Wilson on Wednesday - notice how well behaved our sweet son is....
Nathan "talking" - caught him at the end of a sentence. The camera doesn't work fast enough! He is in his new outfit from Scott's friend Alicia Bonahoom.

Monday through Wednesday - more pictures

On our way to the park - it was really windy!

Told you he was fussy....here he is getting ready to cry

Monday through Wednesday

Playing "Yay Nathan" where he stands up - he loves it. Here he is distracted by his grandparents, who have just arrived.

On his way to Central Park Tuesday night - even when in a bad mood, he is so cute (obviously we are biased)

This week thus far has been an adventure. On Monday, Nathan and I went to our first new mother's support group at Roosevelt Hospital, with our friends Carol and Oliver, where again Nathan was on his best behavior (he slept the whole time). Carol is beginning to think I am a big liar when I say that Nathan is fussy sometimes. The group was wonderful - there were four ladies there with babies from 5 weeks to 5 months, and we were able to share stories and recommendations, and then had lunch together. We will definitely return when the group resumes in two weeks.

On Monday night, Nathan's Grandma and Grandpa Wilson arrived for a short visit. Nathan was a little fussy so we thought we would let him get a good night's sleep before the quality time began. Little did we know....

Tuesday was another fussy day for our little man. We have surmised that his moods are based on his intestinal state (i.e. whether he has pooped or not), and our poor little one has bad gas and serious stomach issues when he is having a fussy day. So Tuesday was spent trying to get Nathan to nap and cheer up, which really was to no avail, in spite of a nice walk through Central Park.

However, after a good night's sleep with his new noise machine, purchased by his grandmothers, and a 2am poop, Nathan is a new man on Wednesday and in a much better mood! He has been such a joy thus far today. He spent quality time with his grandparents and is in the midst of a nice nap this afternoon. Boy do we love it when he feels good!

Tomorrow will be spent getting ready for our trip to Lake George on Friday where we will rejoin Grandma Geri and Grandpa Lee will meet Nathan for the first time, and also see the Wrights - Joel, Becca, Walter, Forest, Nancy...it will be a big weekend! Let's hope Nathan poops....

More Saturday Afternoon

Jon and his son Oliver.

Carol giving Oliver an afternoon snack.

Tom enjoying an afternoon snack of his own.

Ann and Samuel. I'm pretty sure that Sam is going to be a large man.

Ann and Tom's friends from New Zealand/England. Oscar on the right and Milo in the stroller.

Back To His Old Self (well old for a 7-week old)

Nathan returned to form today. All it took was a beautiful day and a few friends. We meet up with Tom, Ann and their son Samuel and Jon, Carol and their son Oliver in the sheep's meadow. Nathan was on his best behavior. In fact he was a dream. He ate well, coo-ed when doted over and pretty much slept the rest of the afternoon. All this sleep today makes me a little nervous for tonight...

Fussy Baby

Oh where oh where did my mild mannered beautiful little boy go? With the changing of the weather, so too have we seen a change in our son. Over the past few days, Nathan has turned "fussy." I had never used the word fussy prior to having a child, but it is the perfect word to describe Nathan's mood. His fussiness has made him restless which in turn has made us sleepless. I at least have the option of escaping to my office during the week, but it's been a bit taxing on Jane.

His problems seem to be gastrointestinal. Nathan has certainly become a very prodigious pooper. Since he cares little for decorum, it's pretty funny to watch him "work one out." His face scrunches up and he shakes his head back and forth as he punches the air. His grunts become louder and louder and after what is obviously a titanic struggle on the part of our son, he stiffens up, his face relaxes and we are rewarded with a cacophonous roar, whereas his problem then becomes our problem. After the third "ruined" outfit, we finally wised up and bought the next size diaper.

We are trying our best with remedies. I picked up some Gripe Water and we are continuing with the little tummies. We are doing lots of exercises with him, standing and leg-pumps to try and help him along. Hopefully once the skies clear again so will Nathan's mood.

Auntie Katie came over on Thursday night.....

Which gave Jane a much needed break

During our evening stroll in the park, we ran into the filming of The Nanny Diaries. Nathan was almost discovered, but he slept the entire time we walked by. Still, we did linger....

After a particularly nasty day weatherwise, the skies cleared to reveal a beautiful evening.

Today we are back in the park. Picnic with Ann, Sam, Carol, Oliver and the Dads at 1pm. It's a little cloudy now and tomorrow is the AIDS walk in the park which will make it a little crowded. Posted by Picasa

Wednesday Photos

Sleeping Sam - notice the bright red hair! Ann says there is no red hair that she knows of in her family....genetics are amazing.
Carol (on left) and Oliver and Ann and Sam in the park - our new friends!
Oliver, relaxing after his afternoon snack.
Nathan having conversation with his Mom...he likes to talk quite a lot (which doesn't surprise anyone knowing how his Mom is....)
Whew....all that conversation is exhausting!
